Eliminate Decision Fatigue & Set Yourself Up For Success
May 26, 2021Set yourself up for success.
I use this phrase a lot in my work.
We so often make it harder for ourselves than we need to.
The small decisions we make throughout the day are what determine so much of our life.
You know what you want. You know how you want to be operating. You know the kinds of decisions that you want to be making daily for your health, your happiness, your success.
And yet.....
Life is full. We get tired. The amount of decisions we make throughout the day is astronomical.
Whether to get up in the morning with enough time to have a healthy morning routine.
Whether or not to work out, even when you don’t feel like it.
What to eat for breakfast, lunch, & dinner.
Whether you cave into sweet cravings with a candy bar or an orange.
Whether you say yes or no to opportunities that present themselves.
What time you decide to go to sleep, or get up.
Whether you get any much-needed downtime or time for fun in each day or week.
Whether you set the much-needed boundary with that person in your life.
Eliminating decision fatigue can help to set yourself up for success.
How you do this is by taking steps ahead of time and arranging your life in a way that makes it easy to make the right decisions for yourself with ease.
Setting yourself up for success means doing the little things that your future self will thank you for.
It’s so often small steps we take preemptively that really allow us to follow through with how we want to be operating.
Examples:
Want to eat more healthy food consistently?
When cooking, think about meal prep. Make extra of the healthy meal you are taking the time to prepare so that you have some healthy lunches ready to go, eliminating the need for any kind of convenience food or take-out.
When it's time to decide what to eat for lunch, there's already a portioned container ready for you to simply grab in the fridge.
Don't want to choose the cookie for a snack? Don't keep them in the house.
Want to be exercising more so that you feel physically fit & healthy?
Find a method of exercise that you enjoy and will look more forward to doing.
Find an accountability partner to work out with, take walks with, or simply check in with you.
Both of these things will help make the decision to exercise so much easier.
Want to have more downtime rather than each day being plump full of activity and to-dos?
Schedule it. Actually plug it into your calendar and hold that appointment on your calendar like anything else important.
If you had a doctor's appointment on your calendar, you would not schedule anything else, right? Treat it like that.
Want to take your supplements every day?
Fill a weekly pill container and keep it on your counter.
They are right there, ready to go. Easy Peasy.
There are so many ways that you can set yourself up for success.
Little steps like the examples I gave above help to eliminate the decision fatigue that you feel, which can be a barrier to you being successful at the things that are important to you. Make it easy for yourself to make the right decisions.
What came to mind for you as you read this?
Is there something that you are not following through with in your life, but you really want to?
How can you set yourself up to succeed? What’s that small step you can take to make it easier for you to follow through?
I’d like to encourage you to make that one small step this week.
With love,
Shelly
